PILATES

PILATES

Originally named Contrology, ‘Pilates’ is an exercise system formulated by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. Pilates devised a series of exercise and training techniques, to a wide variety of specifications and engineered equipment to teach his methods correctly and safely. His original practices have been developed and in some ways adapted over time to ensure the fundamental principles continue to benefit everyone, today.

The Pilates method of exercise is a unique system of stretching and strengthening resulting in a body that is stronger and better balanced. It is a precise and intuitive way of moving that allows muscles to work in isolated and in perfect physical alignment without any stress or strain.

Pilates elicits tangible results whether undertaken as a sole activity or included to compliment and enhance a more varied exercise programme.

Pilates develops body awareness, improving and changing the body’s postural and alignment habits, also increasing flexibility and ease of movement.
